Obituary for Lois Messenger – Granby, CT (1924–2018)

Lois Antoinette (Buckland) Messenger, 93, of Granby, beloved wife of the late Wilbur Arthur Messenger for 59 years, passed away peacefully at St. Francis Hospital on Monday, May 21, 2018. Born August 4, 1924 in Windham to the late George H. and Cornelia (Eddy) Buckland, she was a resident of Granby since 1940 and a 1942 graduate of Simsbury High School. Lois ministered to many families in Granby for many years. She was an active member of West Granby United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and held various positions in the United Methodist Women's Club, as well as many other activities in church life. While her daughters were growing up in Granby, Lois served as a 4-H leader for many years. In her spare time, Lois enjoyed sewing quilts, crafting, gardening and spending time with her family. She leaves behind a son, Donald W. Messenger and his wife, Gail, of Ocala, FL; two daughters, Lola J. Murray of Granby and Shirley A. Isaacson and her husband, David, of Granby; two grandchildren, Steven J. Isaacson of Granby and Brian W. Isaacson and his wife, Erin, of Huntington, MA; a sister, Ruth Gilhooly and her husband, David, of Canaan; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey and Oliver Buckland; two sisters, Olive Wyman and Elinor Rose; and a son-in-law, Lawrence Murray. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 31, at 12 noon at West Granby United Methodist Church, 87 Simsbury Rd., West Granby. Burial will be private in Granby Cemetery, Granby.
