Since the COVID pandemic, food prices have skyrocketed.

Many of us are nostalgic for lower spending and a higher minimum wage. That goes for TikToker @caiticlare89 too.

“I don't have the heart to tell her (my younger self),” she begins a video, “that in 2024, if you earn the national minimum wage and work an hour, all you can afford is a rösti from McDonald's.”

“She deserves better,” she ends the video with a sing-song voice that sounds like she’s about to cry.

Sarah McLachlan's wistful song “Angel” plays in the background. The song clip begins with the line “In the arms of an angel.”

The song is usually played to represent a death, which suggests that its sad tone is somewhat ironic.

It's a selfie video and the background is a screenshot of McDonald's items in an app.

It says that a single Hashbrown costs $4.15 and a Bacon Egg Cheese McMuffin costs $6.59.

It does not disclose that it is the DoorDash app and not the McDonald's app.

OP doesn't say what the prices are on the McDonald's app where she lives.

Several commenters pointed out that DoorDash is raising prices.

Why have prices gone up? There could be broader social and supply chain issues that determine who you should protest against and what you should demand.

Where I live in Canada, we don't have this store, but we have a frozen potato chain called Cavendish and I always have a batch of their hash browns in my freezer. Delicious!

I think I remember them being $0.99 each in the 90's. It's sad to see how much has changed.

It's time to start bulk shopping.
