Lamothe helps Canada win three medals at the synchronized swimming World Cup stop

MARKHAM, Ontario – Montreal native Audrey Lamothe helped Canada win three medals on Sunday on the final day of competition at a synchronized swimming world cup. Lamothe teamed with Jacqueline Simoneau to win silver in the women's duet freestyle event.

MARKHAM, Ontario – Audrey Lamothe of Montreal helped Canada win three medals on Sunday on the final day of competition in a synchronized swimming world cup.

Lamothe won silver in the women's duet free skate competition with Jacqueline Simoneau.

She also helped Canada win two team medals – silver in team freestyle and bronze in team acrobatics.

Simoneau of Saint-Laurent, Que., who was also part of the squad in the team freestyle competition, won six medals at the event, including gold in the women's technical solo on Friday.

Lamothe and Simoneau achieved 246.5501 points in the women's duet freestyle, placing them 7.2229 points behind the Japanese duo Moe Higa and Tomoka Sato. The Ukrainians Maryna Aleksiiva and Vladyslava Aleksiiva came third (242.1772 points).

In the team freestyle, the Canadians (326.2981 points) finished behind the USA (341.6208). Kazakhstan (247.6605) took third place by a wide margin.

Ukraine scored 244.4834 points in the team acrobatics competition, closely followed by China (242.6500). Canada came third with 236.3034 points.

Canada finished the World Cup with seven medals (one gold, five silver and one bronze). China, Kazakhstan and Spain won the most medals with two gold medals each.

Canada's synchronized swimming team has qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris this summer.
