Firearm and drug charges filed against man who jumped from third-story window: Regina police

A Winnipeg man is in custody after escaping from officers in Regina – which involved jumping several stories from an apartment building.

In an April 14 news release, Regina police reported that their officers were in the area of ​​Victoria Avenue and Montreal Street around 5:05 p.m. on April 13 when they saw a man looking out the window of an apartment in the third floor jumped nearby.

Officers reportedly saw the man carrying a handgun as he fled the scene.

With the assistance of the Regina Police Department's Aerial Support Unit (ASU), officers observed the suspect entering a yard on Victoria Avenue.

The man came out of the yard into an alley where police used a conducted energy weapon (CEW). However, this had no effect and a short foot pursuit ensued.

The man was taken into custody without incident.

A search of the yard through which the man was crossing revealed a loaded handgun and a quantity of illegal drugs.

A 25-year-old from Winnipeg, man. He faces eight charges stemming from the incident, including possession of a loaded restricted weapon, obstructing a peace officer and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The defendant will make his first appearance on the charges in provincial court at 9:30 a.m. April 15.
