Waterloo Regional Police continue to investigate hate-motivated attack on light rail

Waterloo Region, Ontario – Waterloo Regional Police continue to investigate a hate-motivated attack that occurred in Waterloo.

On June 1, 2024, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the victim was riding the LRT ION train from Kitchener to Waterloo.

The victim was approached by an unknown man who began to insult him with racist and derogatory remarks. As the argument progressed, the suspect's behavior escalated and he attacked the victim.

There were no injuries and there is currently no safety risk to the public.

The investigation is being continued by the WRPS General Investigations Unit.
