Sultans of String present ambitious project “Walking Through the Fire” at Made in Manitoba – SteinbachOnline.com

Welcome to another Made in Manitoba. We have a lot of visitors with us this weekend as we work with the group Sultans of String and some of their collaborators on the album Walking Through The Fire.

Released last September by the three-time Juno-nominated group, the work is a musical response to the Truth and Reconciliation Committee's 94 calls to action. Each of the 14 songs features an Indigenous artist, and styles vary on each song, with the artists working together to chart a path forward. The goal is deeper sharing and understanding, with music being the common ground that helps cultures connect and understand each other.

Tonight's Made in Manitoba features Sultans of String bandleader and founder Chris McKhool and bassist Drew Birston. Two of the collaborators, Marc Merilainen and Elder Shannon Thunderbird, are also part of the conversation.

Sultans of String has several connections to Manitoba, including that Drew Birston is originally from Winnipeg and his collaborator Marc Merilainen was born in Lynn Lake.
