According to Qulliq Energy Corp., Iqaluit will experience a partial power outage for two days this weekend.

Saturday's power outage will last from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will affect the 100 and 200 block areas of Iqaluit, including parts of Nipisa Street, Umiaq Crescent and Sinaa Street.

Nakasuk School and buildings 672, 670, 329 and 89-99 will also be affected, Qulliq said.

The Nunavut government also announced that the Iqaluit Centennial Library will be closed on Saturday due to the power outage.

Qulliq said the outage was needed while workers install two power poles on Palaugaa Drive.

The power outage on Sunday will last from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will affect customers in the core area and the lower 350- to 500-meter areas between Mivvik Street and the cemetery, Qulliq said.

These include Palaugaa Drive, Umiaq Crescent, Nipisa and Sinaa Street and part of Queen Elizabeth Way.

Northmart, Nakasuk School and Elders Qqmmaq will be affected, Qulliq said.

The outage on Sunday is necessary for safety reasons for workers performing system updates.
