Obituary for Roger Raitto – Bloomfield and Granby, CT

RAITTO, Roger J. Roger Jacob Raitto, 86, of Granby, formerly of Bloomfield, beloved husband of 55 years of Barbara (Cassky) Raitto, died Monday (December 11, 2006) at the McLean Home Simsbury. Born in Worcester, MA, to the late Gustaf and Celia (Allonen) Raitto, he lived in Bloomfield for 39 years and moved to Granby 16 years ago. Roger served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was self-employed as an insurance and investment broker. When his sons were younger, he was an assistant scout leader for Boy Scout Troop #208 in Bloomfield and an avid outdoorsman. He was a former member of Hiram Lodge #98 in Bloomfield. He loved his family and friends dearly and enjoyed traveling and singing, but most of all he enjoyed being with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, R. Jay Raitto and his wife Diana of Spofford, NH, and Jeffrey A. Raitto of Chiefland, FL; a daughter, Sally R. Mullins and her husband James of Granby; three grandchildren, Jessica A. Raitto of Newport, NH, Jennifer and her husband Nicholas Riggott of East Granby, and Tyler J. Mullins of Granby; a brother, David Raitto of Massachusetts and a sister, Barbara Moore of Florida. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, James R. Mullins, Jr. and Matthew J. Mullins, and a sister, Eleonor Muto. His family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, December 15, at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby, followed by a memorial service with military honors at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
