More records ahead of the West Central Track and Field Championship on Saturday

One step ahead of the provincial championships, the West Central Track and Field Championships will be held in Saskatoon on Saturday. Competitors will be split into East and West for the sectional championships. Now the best track and field athletes from the west central region will meet at the Gordie Howe Track and Field Complex on Friday for 3000m events, and then there will be a full program on Saturday.

The West Central District Athletic Association meet in Davidson was held on May 22. After several West records were broken the day before in Rosetown, two athletes set East records in Davidson.

  • Boys 14-15 100 meter hurdles intermediate – Mason Berry, 1A Davidson – 14.75
  • Boys 14-15 Triple Jump Intermediate – Jake Hargrave, 1A Lucky Lake – 10.82m

In the team standings, Davidson led the way in both the women's intermediate and junior divisions. LCBI took the crown in the senior women's division, while Outlook High School earned the most points in the under-13 women's division. In the men's division, Davidson was the best team in the intermediate division, Elrose took first place in the junior and senior divisions, and Outlook took first place in the under-13 women's division.

In the combined team rankings, Davidson was well ahead of everyone else, taking first place in the intermediate division, Elrose took first place in the combined junior division, and LCBI was the clear winner in the combined senior division.

The top six finishers from Sectionals in Davidson advanced on Saturday, joining the other six athletes from Rosetown. Those competitors will now look to achieve a similar result to earn a spot at the provincial championships.

The SHSAA National Track and Field Championships are scheduled for next week, June 7 and 8, and will also be held at the Gordie Howe Track & Field Complex in Saskatoon.
