According to a royal expert, Meghan Markle would be known as Princess Henry if she lost her title as Duchess of Sussex.

Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, told The Royal Beat that it was unlikely that Meghan, 42, and Prince Harry, 39, would be stripped of their royal titles by King Charles III, even though they stepped down from royal duties in 2020.

“I don't think anything will happen to the titles because if they lose their titles, Harry is still a prince of the blood and Meghan is not the Duchess of Sussex, [would] “Be Princess Henry,” Seward said, according to The Mirror.

“That would really be [confuse the Americans]”, she added. “I think [it’s] it's probably best to just leave it because it looks unfriendly, it looks unnecessary.”

Prince Harry was born Prince Henry Charles Albert David, but he naturally goes by Harry, so if Meghan were to lose her title as Duchess of Sussex, she would technically be called Princess Henry, as it is royal tradition for a princess to take an official title using her husband's name.

The same rule applies to Kate Middleton, who was officially known as Princess William but is referred to as the Princess of Wales or Duchess of Cambridge when she married Prince William in 2011.

However, as Seward pointed out, Harry and Meghan will likely forever be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“The Queen gave them the titles, they should keep them – they will be called 'H and M' anyway,” she said.

“I think the best thing is to leave them alone, ignore them and just let them do their thing – and that's exactly what the palace and the royal family are doing.”

Royal title author Tom Quinn recently claimed that 75-year-old Charles and 41-year-old William had “long discussions about stripping the couple of their royal titles.”

However, he does not believe that the king and his heir will dare to take this step.

“They're afraid it could backfire and make the situation worse,” Quinn told The Mirror last month. “The last thing they want is to give the renegade royals another reason to moan.”

“William and his father know that even without their royal titles, Meghan and Harry would continue to travel the world as if they were royals and that most people in the world would still welcome them,” the expert added.

Critics accused Meghan and Harry of using the titles to exploit their connection to the British crown while foregoing any duties or work obligations that come with royal life.

None of the members of the royal family have a speaking relationship with Meghan and Harry.
