Mark Spencer wins the Estevan OTS Oilmen golf tournament

Spencer shot a 70 on Sunday and won the 36-hole tournament by three strokes ahead of Anthony Melle.

ESTEVAN – Mark Spencer won the Estevan Oilfield Technical Society (OTS) Oilmen's Golf Tournament for the first time.

Spencer shot a 2-under-par 70 on Sunday to win the tournament's 36-hole contest, finishing three strokes ahead of Anthony Melle.

Defending champion Nolan Rohatyn finished in third place with 70 points, tied with Payden Benning.

As part of the 36-hole tournament, golfers played a qualifying round on Friday or Saturday to determine which group they would end up in on Sunday.

The results from Sunday determined the champion and the flight winners. The tournament winner must come from the championship flight.

Spencer was the best player in the tournament all weekend. In his qualifying round he shot a 70, five strokes better than Melle.

Spencer continued his momentum on Sunday, shooting a 34 over the first nine holes. Spencer then made a birdie on the 10th hole to extend his lead. His only blemish was a bogey on the 13th hole.

Tony Heath won the first flight with a score of 75 on Sunday, which was 11 strokes better than his first round score. Richard Lamontagne was second with a score of 79.

Jason Fenwick won the second flight with a 73 – one of the best rounds of the tournament. He had a 90 in the opening round. Dave Morrow took second place with an 86.

Travis Karsta won the third flight with an 85, well ahead of Kyle Unger, who shot a 99.

There was also an 18-hole tournament, which Riley Tetreault won with a 75. Taysen Holt and Jeff Clausen tied for second place with 76. Golfers in the 18-hole tournament played their round on Friday or Saturday.

More than 275 golfers participated in this year's tournament, making it once again the largest in the Estevan area. It also has a strong social component, culminating in the steak dinner on Saturday night at the Rotary Hall.
