Hull vs Ipswich betting tips

Hull and Ipswich face two teams in desperate need of wins for their promotion ambitions in the Championship showdown on Saturday evening (8pm, Sky Sports Main Event).

Ipswich could be four points behind second-place Leeds at kick-off as their rivals played twice this week before having a chance to respond.

Leicester appeared to have secured their return to the Premier League after defeating Southampton, leaving the Whites and Kieran McKenna's men in a head-to-head battle for the final automatic promotion spot in the final week of the season.

Hull are pushing for a place in the top six and boosted their chances of reaching the play-offs with a 3-2 win over Coventry in midweek. The Tigers still need to be clean to beat either West Brom or Norwich, so a home win over Ipswich is essential.

Ipswich are favorites to win away from home with football betting providers, but after failing to win their last three games, the pressure is now on McKenna's men.

Hull vs Ipswich prediction: Tigers increase the pressure

Hull have given themselves a chance of reaching the play-offs with a five-game unbeaten run, although a place in the top six is out of their control.

Both West Brom and Norwich could be six points ahead before the Tigers kick off on Saturday evening, so Hull know anything other than a win would see them miss out on extending their season.

Ipswich are also under pressure as they bid to secure automatic promotion. After a dramatic win against Southampton earlier this month, Ipswich appeared determined to end their 22-year exile from the Premier League.

But a three-game winning streak has put McKenna's men in the spotlight and although they still have a game in hand against Leeds, they could be four points behind the Whites come Saturday.

The Tractor Boys are not playing their best football and don't want to end up in a situation where they narrowly miss out on the automatic places and could be forced to make the play-offs.

Ipswich's strength this season has been their ability to score goals, but they have only scored once in their last three games. They have also lost two of their last three away games and their win over Blackburn was anything but convincing.

Liam Rosenior's side have the players they need to beat Ipswich in the final third and looking at the betting sites it makes sense to back Hull to get the win they need. William Hill has the best price for this example at 23/10.

Tips for Hull vs Ipswich: Philogene will star again

Jaden Philogene has been one of the standout players in the championship this season. After deciding to leave Aston Villa at the end of the summer transfer window, Philogene flourished under Rosenior's management.

The 22-year-old impressed on loan for Cardiff City last season but has taken his game to the next level in the final third in League Two. Philogene has scored 12 goals and provided five assists in just 30 games, missing much of the season due to injury.

Even if Hull don't get promoted, Philogene could be on his way to the Premier League after attracting the attention of several clubs.

Philogene has been one of the driving forces behind the Tigers' recent play-off push, scoring four goals in his last five games and will give Ipswich all they can on the flanks.

The Tractor Boys have the best defensive record in the Championship, but Hull have only suffered four defeats at home this season. On the betting apps, Philogene is behind several Ipswich players in the goalscoring market, but we put odds at 11/4 at bet365 that he will score any time.

Hull vs Ipswich: Few corners at the MKM Stadium

Only two teams have scored more goals from set pieces than Ipswich this season, with Leif Davis' boot doing enormous damage from corners and set pieces. However, McKenna's men have not been particularly productive at collecting corners this season.

Ipswich's games average slightly higher than the Tigers' at 10.35 per game, although we shouldn't expect there to be many corners for two teams who like to pass the ball on deck.

The Tractor Boys average just 4.29 turns per game on the road, one of the lowest figures in the Championship. It could be symptomatic of the way they play, with a slightly more conservative approach than their games at Portman Road.

When you look at gambling sites, you can see that the corner market offers value. BetVictor offers odds of 11/10 for under 4.5 Ipswich corners, which we will use for our final prediction for this Championship competition.
