Gord Hill Obituary
October 3, 1960 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
April 9, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that I announce that my beloved husband, Gord Hill, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the age of 63.
Gord Hill was born on October 3, 1960 in Saskatoon and spent his formative years in Edmonton. He had many fond memories of his childhood and growing up in Edmonton.
He graduated at the top of his class with honors in organic chemistry from the University of Alberta and completed postgraduate studies at MIT in Boston. Midway through his doctoral program, Gord decided to shift his focus to the emerging field of computer software. After returning to Canada, Gord graduated with honors in computer science from DeVry University in Calgary in 1992.
Gord spent his career working on computer software and data analysis for various energy companies in Calgary, where his brilliance, calm demeanor and humanity were soon recognized by all who had the pleasure of working with him (including me). Gord had the unique ability to work and talk to anyone and everyone. He was a great mentor and made many friends over his 30-year career. In 2022, he retired from Enerplus Corporation as Senior Data Architect.
Gord was brilliant, kind, caring, generous, compassionate, funny and humble. He loved with all his heart. He also laughed wholeheartedly, so I always tried to be super funny just so I could hear him laugh. Everyone who knew him has a Gord story to tell and after 30 years together, I have a million.
For Gord, family was very valuable. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Hill, his mother, Sandy Hill, and his sister, Allison Broenink.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Hill, his daughters, Amanda Lockhart and Amber Lockhart; his grandchildren, Jerrie Kolodychuk and Dorian Lockhart; his aunt Dee Reid, his brother Alec Hill (Esme Varvis) and their children Apollo Hill and Ulysses Hill; his niece Aleida Broenink, his nephew James Broenink and many second cousins.
Rest in peace, my dear, dear husband.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at the Festival Hall (1215 10th Ave SE, Calgary, AB). THE LIFE AND TIMES OF GORD HILL, A CELEBRATION. Prepare with your Gord story.
