WEST WINDSOR, NJ – The La Salle University men's rowing team concluded the championship season with a strong finish on Sunday at the IRA National Championships. The varsity eight set a new program record by finishing 17th overall, while the Explorers finished close to the top 20 nationally with all three boats competing.

  • The second university eight took part in the D final and immediately reached third place over 500 meters, almost four tenths of a second behind third-placed UC San Diego.
  • The Explorers had a strong middle section of the race, gaining almost a full second on first-place Wisconsin and sprinting past UC San Diego, Jacksonville and Santa Clara.
  • On the home stretch, the Explorers were able to maintain their pace relatively well, but were unable to reduce the gap to the Badgers.
  • Wisconsin and La Salle dominated the rest of the field, taking clear first and second places, with the Explorers only 2.6 seconds behind.
  • The placement secured the 2V8 20th place nationally, surpassing its 22nd place prior to the event.
  • La Salle concluded its participation in the IRAs with the Varsity Eight C final and the team got off to a strong start.
  • Over 1,000 meters, the Explorers finished a strong third, just behind Cornell and Columbia and ahead of Navy and Drexel.
  • La Salle still had a lead of almost a second over the Dragons at the 1,500-meter mark, but could not maintain this lead and finished fifth in the final and 17th overall in the competition.
  • With a 17th-place finish, they also beat the Explorers' starting position of 19 coming into the IRA, surpassing last season's 18th-place finish in the IRA as the program's best finish.
