CALGARY – Calgary Stampeders receiver Malik Henry suffered a knee injury during practice and will undergo season-ending surgery.

The 27-year-old wide receiver suffered a patellar tendon injury on Tuesday, the Stampeders said.

Henry had eight touchdowns and led the Stampeders with 1,023 receiving yards in 2022. He played only three games in 2023 due to a torn Achilles tendon.

“It's a heartbreaking situation after seeing how hard Malik worked last year to come back from his Achilles injury,” Stampeders general manager and head coach Dave Dickenson said in a statement Wednesday.

“As an organization, we will do everything we can to support Malik. In the meantime, we need to continue our preparations for the season and make sure everyone steps in to fill the void.”

The Stampeders have signed Calgary receiver Colton Hunchak. The 26-year-old, who played football at York, has made 45 catches for 606 yards in 50 regular season games for the Stampeders over four seasons.

Hunchak also has three catches for 32 yards in four career playoff games. He was selected by the Stampeders in the eighth round of the 2019 draft.

As part of further training camp measures, Calgary released offensive lineman Alexandre Marcoux and placed receiver Maxim Malenfant on the decommissioned list.

The Stampeders will finish their preseason schedule with a game against the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg on Friday before playing their season opener at home against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on June 7.
