Provincial digital childcare waiting list now live

A new digital waiting list for parents looking for a daycare center is now set up under the supervision of the provincial government.

Education Minister Krista Lynn Howell says the Early Learning Gateway online platform will improve access to early childhood education and child care in Newfoundland and Labrador. The platform will connect providers with parents, reduce the administrative burden of managing a waiting list and increase efficiency.

Users will be prompted to register through MyGovNL. If users are not registered, they can do so using an MCP card, driver's license or a photo ID issued by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

According to the minister, there are nearly 9,400 early childhood education and child care places that can operate for $10 or less a day, and another 2,000 are under development.

The gateway is still in its early stages, but Minister Howell says the system has much more potential.

The platform will continue to evolve and add new features, she says.
