Preston firefighters respond to emergency call during Memorial Day Parade

PRESTON, MD – A fire damaged a two-story single-family home at 232 Main Street Monday evening. The Preston Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire, which was reported at 7:24 p.m., while firefighters were participating in a local parade.

The home of Derin and Katie Brewer sustained an estimated $75,000 in damage, including $50,000 to the building and $25,000 to the contents.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The fire that broke out in the living room was brought under control within 20 minutes.

It was determined to be an accident caused by a malfunction of an unspecified electronic device. Smoke detectors in the home were activated and assisted in the response, although there was no sprinkler system.

The incident highlights the importance of smoke detectors and the community's ability to respond quickly.
