Nelson Bird | CTV News


Nelson Bird has been a commissioning editor at CTV Regina News since 2013. He is a former anchor, reporter and producer of the weekly CTV SK series Indigenous Circle, which he hosted for more than 15 years. His first language is English, but he understands and speaks some Cree.

Nelson was born and raised in the Peepeekisis First Nation and has lived in Regina for over 35 years. He is a graduate of the University of Regina/First Nations University with a degree in Journalism and Indigenous Studies. He also holds a Certificate in Native American Communication Arts. He also holds a Professional Management Certificate from the University of Regina.

Nelson started at CTV Saskatchewan in 1998 as a video journalist, producer and anchor. Over the years, he has won numerous regional, national and international awards for his work, including several RTDNAs.

Nelson is passionate about reporting on all issues related to diversity, but has particular knowledge and interest in reporting on Indigenous issues. He regularly mentors and trains young and aspiring journalists.

He has been giving motivational speeches at schools and universities for more than 20 years and still finds time to mentor young people.

Nelson is very proud of his Indigenous culture and in his spare time he is a jack of all trades, doing everything from plumbing to carpentry. He and his family enjoy living in Regina.
