Multiple nightly closures mean Dartford Crossing will remain closed for maintenance throughout June


Motorists are urged to plan ahead as a month-long road closure has been announced on a busy stretch of road between Kent and Essex.

The closures are intended to repair important electrical systems in the east tunnel and to repaint the steel structure of a bridge in the area of ​​the A282 junction 1a to protect it from corrosion.

The roads will be closed at night from Monday (June 3) to Friday, June 21, during the week.

The northbound carriageway of the A282 – between the M25, junction 2 and junction 1a – will be closed between 10pm and 5.30am Monday to Thursday and between 11pm and 6am on Friday.


The Dartford East Tunnel will also be closed Monday to Thursday between 9pm and 5.30am and Friday between 9.30pm and 6am.

In addition, overnight weekend closures are planned to allow for maintenance work on both northbound tunnels at the junction, which will be closed from 8:30 p.m. Saturday 8 June to 5:00 a.m. Sunday 9 June.

From Monday 24 June to Friday 28 June, the Dartford East Tunnel will be closed on weekdays for a further week.

From Monday to Thursday it will again be closed between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. and on Friday between 9:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.

It is part of the National Highways' comprehensive maintenance programme to keep journeys at the Dartford Crossing safe and reliable.

Drivers are advised to allow more time for their journeys and to observe the applicable traffic guidance and diversion routes.
