Marion Carol van der Borch (née Eastwood)
The 80-year-old woman, formerly of Saint John, NB, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2024 at The Birches Nursing Home in Musquodoboit Harbour, NS. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Marcel, her parents Karl and Marion Eastwood, her sister Gail Eastwood, her brother-in-law Terry Fennell and her son-in-law Timothy Clegg.
Carol will be missed by her daughters Michele van der Borch and Sondra Clegg (Scott), her grandchildren Caitlin Clegg-Jacobs (Bennett) and Danielle Clegg (Matt), her siblings Donna Miller (Alex), Karen Fennell, Juana Thorne (Donnie), Brenda Cobbett (Rick) and Eric Eastwood (Kathy), her brother-in-law Fred van der Borch (Linda), her aunts Pat and Dot and uncle Buddy and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mum taught us to bake and cook – she made the best homemade bread, baked beans and stuffed cabbage. She instilled in us a love of good food, reading and family. She loved attending family gatherings and helping to care for her mum in her later years. Carol had a passion for her family, her work, crocheting, painting, reading, bingo and, when her memory failed, crime dramas on TV.
In her mother's later years, Alzheimer's disease robbed her of her passions, family ties, and former life. She was anxious, scared, and sometimes angry, but it also gave her a whole new life. Mother may not have been able to share our family stories with us or anyone else, but her imagination flourished and she told stories of her new life. She was a very successful businesswoman, millionaire, traveled the world, spoke many new languages ​​(which she translated into English upon request), and developed a quirky sense of humor. We haven't found the million dollars yet.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Society or a charity of your choice.
A celebration of life will be held on June 8, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (646-2424).
