Obituary for James Henderson
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband and father. Jim was born and raised on the family farm near Reston, Manitoba. He was the third youngest of Jack and Agnes Henderson's ten children. All predeceased him except his surviving sister, Mrs. Gerri Hammel of Saskatoon, Sk. As a young man, he began his career as a grain buyer for Lake of the Woods in the Waskada area. This small business was soon acquired by Manitoba Pool Elevators, with whom he spent the next forty years of his working life. During his tenure, he was assigned to various communities where he was tasked with increasing the customer base, increasing sales, and keeping the premises clean. He built many trusting relationships within the local farming communities. He was respected by the farmers he served and was proud of the numerous awards he received for managing the cleanest farms. He shared this journey with his loving and devoted wife of sixty-two years, Donna, née Duke. They met early in his career when he was staying with her grandparents on the family farm in Harmsworth, MB. He enjoyed telling this story again, with a wink. Together they raised four children and navigated the challenges that came with each family move to Miniota, Rapid City, Boissevain and finally Brandon, MB. They enjoyed their home and neighborhood on Magnacca Crescent in Brandon for over thirty years. They received care and support from their neighbors during difficult times while Jim battled leukemia and after he lost his beloved grandson, Dustin James Marr, in 2013. It was a difficult decision for them as they sold their house in 2023 and moved again to Boissevain, MB. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was loyal, witty and funny. He was kind and merciful. His wife Donna will miss having him by her side. His children will miss his wonderful storytelling. His grandchildren will always remember the Tic Tacs he kept in his shirt pockets. His little great-grandchildren may remember his gentle and loving nature. He is survived by his wife Donna, his four children Laurie (Rod Phillips), Lisa Henderson, Vivian (Rick Gray) and David Henderson (Colleen); his grandchildren, Jenna (Craig Heisler), Amanda Marr (Chad Reynolds), Alyssa (Tanner Jorgensen), Matthew Gray, Kylie Henderson (Isaac Campbell) and Jake Henderson; four great-grandchildren Jack and Charlie Reynolds and Mila and Bowen Jorgensen, as well as numerous other family members. It’s not “goodbye,” it’s “see you later.” A private family graveside burial and ceremony will be held in Reston, Manitoba later this summer.
