Infant dies in side-by-side crash: NS RCMP

A toddler has died and three others, including another child, were hospitalized following an ATV accident in Forties, NS, on Monday.

A police news release on Wednesday said Lunenburg District RCMP, along with firefighters and paramedics, responded to the crash involving a side-by-side on a forest road near the 1100 block of Forties Road shortly after 7 p.m.

According to police, officers found the SUV was traveling on a narrow gravel road when it overturned and landed on its roof.

Of the four passengers, a toddler from Forties was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

Two adults, a 27-year-old woman from Forties who was driving the car, and a 52-year-old man from New Ross, NS, were taken to hospital with serious injuries. A second child from Forties suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital, police said.

According to Guillaume Tremblay of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Nova Scotia, alcohol may have played a role based on the “evidence collected so far.”

Forties Road was closed for several hours but has now reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.
