Heavy Equipment Mechanic – Northern Ontario Company



Wesdome Gold Mines has been engaged in continuous gold mining in Canada for over 30 years. The company is 100% Canadian focused and has a pipeline of projects in various stages of development. The company's strategy is to build Canada's next intermediate gold producer, producing more than 200,000 ounces from two mines in Ontario and Quebec. The Eagle River Complex in Wawa, Ontario is currently producing gold at the Eagle River Underground Mine. Wesdome is actively exploring its brownfield site, the Kiena Complex in Val d'Or, Quebec. The Kiena complex is a fully permitted former mine with a 930 meter long shaft and a mill with a capacity of 2,000 tonnes per day. The company trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol “WDO.”


Heavy Equipment Mechanic is part of a team responsible for maintaining the Eagle River Mine site's equipment and mechanical systems to ensure smooth and continuous operations.

The tasks include, among others:

  • Follow Wesdome security policies and applicable regulatory, customer or industry requirements.
  • Participate in the development of safe work practices.
  • Attend planning, health and safety meetings or other meetings as required.
  • Build strong relationships with the maintenance team to ensure smooth operations and satisfaction.
  • Work in accordance with health and safety regulations and other applicable regulations (TSSA, CWB).
  • Ensure all logbooks are maintained in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Repair, install/uninstall, assemble/disassemble, align equipment as required, both mobile and stationary.
  • Carry out pre-assembly activities such as: B. cleaning and lubricating parts.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and written instructions for assembling parts or products.
  • Carry out the assembly of heavy mobile mining equipment according to the technical drawings.
  • Position or align components for assembly manually or using lifting equipment.
  • Maintains scope of work within specified timelines.
  • Perform preventative maintenance checks on equipment.
  • Use tools and equipment correctly and safely.
  • Providing information on required parts and equipment to enable proper management of parts required for the order.


  • Certification as a heavy-duty equipment mechanic desirable.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience with mining specific equipment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment schematics.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; Computer skills.
  • Ability to work a varied shift schedule, including night shift.
  • Strong communication and motivational skills to maintain and promote a productive and safe work atmosphere.
  • Underground work is mandatory.
  • Mine Common Core certification is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of mine elevators is an advantage.

  • 11 hour shifts
  • 14 days on 14 days off
