CROSSVILLE, TN – On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at approximately 12:55 a.m. CST, Cumberland County Emergency Services received a call about a robbery in progress at the Waffle House, 48 Executive Dr., Crossville, TN.

When officers arrived, they found that a male suspect had entered the restaurant. He was armed with a folding knife, attacked two employees and fled toward the wooded area behind the Marathon gas station with $388 in cash. A call from the Red Roof Inn indicated that the suspect may be in that building.

The suspect was found in the attic of the hotel, which he entered through a utility room door. When found, the suspect began throwing money at officers and refused to comply with officers' commands. Less-lethal means such as pepper spray, bean bags and a taser were used to free the suspect from the attic. After falling through the ceiling of three different hotel rooms, the suspect was arrested and $381 was seized. Damage to the hotel rooms is estimated at $30,000.

The suspect was identified as Jonathan William Beard, 31, of Harriman, Tennessee. Beard was charged with aggravated robbery, burglary, two counts of aggravated assault and four counts of vandalism.
